It’s been six weeks since enfuse has been shared with the general public. Although still in its infancy and with a few bugs to be addressed, it has shown immense potential and received rave reviews.
Enfuse is a command line tool, but most photographers prefer graphics user interfaces for such visual work. A number of such users interfaces have quickly appeared, like a nice coat of fresh paint on a new house.
Some, like Erik Krause’s droplets for windows have been contributed to the Enblend/Enfuse project. An exchange in kind – after all Enblend/Enfuse were donated too. These contributions are now distributed along with the latest Hugin installer for OSX by Harry van der Wolf and for Windows by Yuval Levy.
Others have preferred to keep their recipes for themselves, while distributing only executables. This is perfectly acceptable as long as they respect the licensing terms of the GNU General Public License V2.
It did not take long until calls for donations where issued throughout the users communities. After all this is free software and the developers of Enfuse have donated to the general public an amazing tool, the results of months of hard work and research.
It’s good to donate. When doing so, remember that no nice coat of paint could have been added if there was no foundation and building to paint. Credit due where credit is due. Donate to Enblend/Enfuse. Donate to Hugin.
