U.S. Army evaluates Hugin for Battlefield Use


Last year, as part of a “disruptive technologies” course at the United States Military Academy, in West Point, N.Y., Roy D. Ragsdale set out to develop a prototype DYI Street-View like system using off-the-shelf components and open source software, including Hugin. He thought it would have many applications in the battlefield, for example, helping soldiers patrol dangerous routes.

His project yielded a working proof-of-concept. The U.S. Army is currently evaluating his prototype.

Political views about war and peace aside, this is testimony of the level of reliability and stability that Hugin has reached.
